Cabbage Village

The cabbages continue to grow.  I may have to transplant a couple soon because they are too close.  Have you started a garden?

Start A Garden

I started a garden about a week ago and my Android phone finally let the photos through.  Any guesses as to what I planted first?

Poker Season

Sometimes I like to play poker tournaments. A friend from church has one periodically with prizes and all the entry fees go to charity. Hopefully I'll get around to playing in it this year.

If you've read BigManWalking long you might remember that 2 years ago my wife and I went to the Bahamas because I won a free (yes, free) preliminary tournament that earned me a seat in a BIG tournament as well as the trip and most of our accomodations and airfare. There were 10,000 people in Phase One and you had to finish in the Top 18 to get a ticket to Phase Two.

In Phase Two there were 1349 people and you had to earn 1st Place in order to win the trip. Second Place got zero. Goose Egg. Nada. Not even a Starbucks coupon. I came in first place and we had a wonderful time in the Bahamas. I lasted 13 hours the first day and 15 minutes on the second. Tough competition in that tournament taught me something. I was playing too conservatively (except for my final hand)!

Now I'm working on winning a trip to Copenhagen or somewhere else in Europe.

I have a lot of experience as I worked in casinos in the early to mid '90s.

To paraphrase an advertisement from the '70s - If you gamble, play poker. If you don't, then don't start.

And, kids...stay in school!

Gardening Is Exercise!

Yesterday I cleared some space by weeding in the backyard and started to plant cabbage. I worked up a good sweat and was even a little sore in bed last night. That's a good thing.

Today I planted another cabbage plant that I got at the local nursery.

It's been a long time since I've had room to garden and it feels good to get outside and get my hands in the dirt and my head in the sunshine.

What are you doing differently in 2010?

Happy New Decade!

Wow. I guess by "tomorrow" I meant see you in 3 months.

That's OK. New Year. New Decade.

Got up earlier than I expected and read the bible a little - "Be anxious for nothing..."

Check out Philippians 4:6 if you like.

Then I prayed and took a shower.

At 11:00 I'm calling a new customer who wants more energy.

How is your New Decade/Year starting?

No matter what has come before, you can make a new start now!

Do it now!

No Video Yet

I'm not sure how they count video in the "Blog Every Day In A Month" Category, but for today there's no video because I have to get some more technology to upload it from my phone.

Oh, the suspense!

See you tomorrow! :-)

Les Brown And Me

Motivation and inspiration are really good things!

I saw Les Brown in San Diego with my wife in the last couple weeks and he is as inspirational as ever!

Oh, I forgot to mention...

Yesterday I woke up and weighed in at 245 pounds! That means I have released over 31 pounds in 8 weeks doing what I'm doing!

Yes!

Here are some inspirational/motivational quotes:

“Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars.”

“You need to make a commitment, and once you make it, then life will give you some answers.”

“You must remain focused on your journey to greatness.”

“Life takes on meaning when you become motivated, set goals and charge after them in an unstoppable manner.”

“I believe that life is a journey, often difficult and sometimes incredibly cruel, but we are well equipped for it if only we tap into our talents and gifts and allow them to blossom.”

“Honor your commitments with integrity.”

“The only limits to the possibilities in your life tomorrow are the buts you use today.”

“You cannot be wimpy out there on the dream-seeking trail. Dare to break through barriers, to find your own path.”

“If you put yourself in a position where you have to stretch outside your comfort zone, then you are forced to expand your consciousness.”

“If you set goals and go after them with all the determination you can muster, your gifts will take you places that will amaze you.”

“Don't let someone else's opinion of you become your reality.”

All of these quotes are from Les Brown
